In 1884, a wealthy widow named Sarah L. Winchester began a construction project of such magnitude that it was to occupy the lives of carpenters and craftsmen until her death thirty-eight years later. The Victorian mansion, designed and built by the Winchester Rifle heiress, is filled with so many unexplained oddities, that it has come to be known as the Winchester Mystery House.
Sarah Winchester built a home that is an architectural marvel. Unlike most homes of its era, this 160-room Victorian mansion had modern heating and sewer systems, gas lights that operated by pressing a button, three working elevators, and 47 fireplaces. From rambling roofs and exquisite hand inlaid parquet floors to the gold and silver chandeliers and Tiffany art glass windows, you will be impressed by the staggering amount of creativity, energy, and expense poured into each and every detail

Sunday we went to the Winchester Mystery House in San Jose. It was pretty cool. After we toured the house we walked through the gardens. They were very pretty.
Mari and Norah by the fountain. Inside the house there are stairs that don't go anywhere, windows in the floor, doors without anything on the other side, and cupboard doors without any room to store anything.
This is the door to nowhere- on the inside. This is the door to nowhere on the outside. If it were to be opened from the inside there is a drop from the second to the ground on the other side.
The Winchester house had a thing with the #13. This is a sink drain with 13 drain holes. Throughout the house there are windows with 13 gems, closets with 13 coat hooks, and sinks with 13 holes or decorations.
The cupboard without any room to store. Notice the finger- that is how deep the cupboard is(just the dark brown color).
There are supposedly 13 fireplaces- this is one of them in the ballroom. There are all these fireplaces and one chimney. The chimney is only one foot from reaching the fourth floor. Sarah Winchester didn't want and open chimney because she was afraid that it would let the bad spirits in the house.
